Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) is a biocompatible polymer that has been shown to produce an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy with a high degree of sensitivity, which can be used for the detection and monitoring of chemical reactions. The polymer is synthesized from 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, which undergoes a free radical reaction with water vapor to form ester linkages. Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) is a good candidate for different applications in vitro because it is chemically stable and has a high degree of water permeability. The polymer also exhibits excellent physical properties such as mechanical strength, low density and thermal stability.
