Daidzein is a natural compound found in plants. It has been shown to have biological properties that may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Daidzein is an active analogue of genistein and binds to estrogen receptors, which may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Daidzein has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in vitro. These effects are due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis and therefore reduce inflammation. Daidzein has not been tested in vivo, so its efficacy as a drug is unknown.
